Evaluation Of Traffic Accident Cases Admitted To The Emergency Department Of The Fırat University Hospital In 1997-2001

Abstract
In this study, traffic accidents occured in Elazig where one of the junctions of highways going through the eastem cities, have been studied. Hospital files of 1399 forensic cases subjects who were injured in consequence of any traffic accident and brought to Firat Uni- versity, Firat Medical Center Hospital were examined. The obtained data were evaluated in respect to forensic medicine. 1068 (76.3%) of the subjects were ma le, 331 (23.7%) ofthem were female and mean age was 27.04: 1: 17.08. When we examined their files we found that 585 (41.8%) of the injured subjects exposed an accident when they were inside the vehicle and 577 (41.2%) of them outside the vehicle. 286 (20.4%) of them were exposed to life threatening, 47 (3.4%) subjects died in emergency services and in the other services. The most frequendy injured anatomical region were head and neck, was encountered in 248 (20.3%) cases. With respect to accident density, the month of July is in the first range with 219 (%15.7) cases. ResembIing results has been obtained with the studies in the other regions.
