Abstract
Objectives
The aim of this study is detection of the rate of following up the latest information and the current level of knowledge of medical personnel about Basic Life Support (BLS) that are working in different medical fields.
Methods
Health personnel working in the province of Izmir were designated as the study group. Three different sample group were established according to field of work. The survey questionnaires that were prepared in accordance with the updates of Universal BLS guidelines, applied to study groups as face to face interviews.
Results
In the evaluation of the current knowledge level of medical personnel about BLS, the right knowledge rate of medical personnel on "the rate of cardiac massage and artificial ventilation" was detected as highest, whereas the rate of medical personnel’s ability on ranking the application steps was detected as the lowest. Knowledge of health professional groups working in the field of pre-hospital emergency care about BLS, was statistically found as significant than that of professional groups working in other medical fields.
Conclusion
The rate of medical personnels’ following up the latest information about Basic Life Support (BLS) is low. There are differences in the current level of knowledge between sample groups established according to fields of work.
