Abstract

Gastric volvulus is a rare and life-threatening disease. Treatment requires emergency surgery. In this article, an 85 year-old female patient who came in to our emergency room with epigastric abdominal pain, nausea and intractable vomiting is presented with current literature. The patient was diagnosed with gastric volvulus due to paraoesaphagial hernia, an emergency laparoscopic surgery was performed and was discharged on post -operative day 4 without any complications.

Gastric volvulus is presented with non-specific abdominal symptoms and diagnosis may be delayed or skipped. Chest x-ray and radiological imaging techniques such as computed tomography is helpful in diagnosis. Emergency laparoscopic surgery is the gold standard of treatment.
