Abstract

In order to find the epidemiological features of traumatic forensic cases who cam e from Zonguldak and its surroundings and admitted to emergency services, 2000 temporary forensic reports and hospital documents prepared in two years period betWeen June 1" 2001 and May 31" 2003 were searched. Of the cases, 1564 (78.2%) were males, and 436 (21.8%) were females. The most encountered kind of forensic case was battery (64.6%) and the least encountered one was electric shock (0.5%). The cases were accumulated between 20-29 ages (32.6%) and 17.5% of all the cases were drunk. Highest number of eriminal cases was encountered in August (12.2%). Although lifethreatening cases were up to 21.4% in temporary reports, it was 6% in final reports of Department of Forensic Medicine. Most common occurrence site of lesions was head and neck region with 36.2 percentage. While 77.2% of the cases were treated in emergeney services as outpatients, the rest 22.8% were hospitalized in relevant elinies.
