Abstract

Emergency departments are places where racing against time take place. Correct diagnosis need to be made before appropriate treatment can be provided. New technological developments make new diagnostic methods available every day. It is important that such the diagnostic methods be useful, inexpensive, easily attainable and dependable in daily practice. Four new biomarkers and their clinical use are discussed in our paper: 1) Situation of BNP in heart failure diagnosis and follow-up, 2) Situation of h-FABP in early diagnosis for acute coronary syndro mes, 3) Use of d-dimer in diagnosing aortic dissection, 4) Situation of Prokalsiton in sepsis diagnosis and prognosis.
